Paediatrics
The growing body comes with a unique set of challenges and problems, along with the aches and pains that happen with rapid growth spurts, for many children toileting and pelvic health can be fraught with difficulty.
This can include issues such as;
- Functional constipation
- Faecal incontinence
- Overactive Bladder
- Voiding Dysfunction
- Night time bedwetting
- Frequent urinary tract infections.
While for many children, some of these are issues that they will grow out of, for others they may persist causing embarrassment and even lower self-esteem. Often, the cause of these problems is pelvic floor dysfunction that can be treated effectively through physiotherapy.
Our Paediatric Services
Comfort First
These are very personal issues and can be difficult for children to talk about, even to parents. With this in mind, our physiotherapists approach treatment with the child’s comfort at the front of their mind. Physiotherapy is able to assist with collecting any information necessary to determine the likely cause of any dysfunction
What to expect
You and your child may be asked to complete a bladder diary and answer questions from our therapists. There is no physical exam for children with bladder and bowel issues unless absolutely necessary.
Treatments may include
- Pelvic floor education and exercises and a bladder schedule
- Education of bladder and bowel functions
- Biofeedback of the pelvic floor and constipation management
- Skincare, toileting positions and proper wiping techniques
Parental Participation
During our treatment and therapy, it is extremely important that both parent and child are completely comfortable. We tailor treatments to suit the whole family and to maximise function and participation in all areas.
“Our mission is to provide the highest standard of patient care whilst incorporating a holistic approach toward diagnosis and management of illness and injury.“
